Notifications and your watchlist
Two more tabs help you stay on top of things without living on the site: Emails (your notification preferences) and Watchlist.
Email notifications
Under Emails you choose which messages you want to receive. These typically include:
- Outbid — an email when someone overtakes your bid.
- Closing soon — a reminder when a sale you're in is about to close.
- Watchlist closing — a reminder when a lot you're watching is about to close.
Turn on the ones you find useful and leave off the ones you don't.
One thing to know: for an email to arrive, both you and the sale have to have it switched on. If you've ticked a box but hear nothing, it usually means the auction house hasn't enabled that kind of reminder for the current sale — not that anything is broken. The page tells you when that's the case.
Some emails always come regardless of these settings — the essentials, like confirming your email, telling you that you won, and sending your invoice and its payment link. Those aren't things you can be opted out of.
Your watchlist
Watchlist collects every lot you've pressed Watch this lot on. It's grouped by how soon lots close, so the ones ending next are at the top — think of it as a to-do list for the week.
- You can watch a lot whether or not you're registered for its sale; watching is just a browsing aid.
- Lots you watched that have already closed stay on the list, collapsed, showing what they actually sold for — a useful gauge of the market before you set your next maximum.
- Remove a lot any time by pressing Watching — remove on the lot, or from the watchlist.
Your profile
Finally, the Profile tab is where you keep your name, phone number and mailing address up to date, and change your password. Keeping your address current matters most if you have items shipped, and your phone number is how the house reaches you about pickup.
